Whistler Deep Tissue Massage

Whistler Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage, sometimes referred to as sports massage,  is not only for athletes. Anyone can benefit from it.  Deep tissue therapy or deep muscle therapy is one of the most popular bodywork styles on the market today and focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue.

Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense.  as it is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain.

This type of massage involves the scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, which if done correctly, can be highly stimulating and invigorating.  Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue resulting from injury  by focusing on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage.  Deep tissue massage involves sustained direct pressure on specific sites of spasm called trigger points, deep friction of tendons and slow, deep stretching of the fascia, all designed to return tight and injured muscles to their normal resting length.

Who can Benefit From Deep Tissue Massage: often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity, such as athletes, and patients who have sustained physical injury.  It is designed to get into the connective tissue of the body, rather than just the surface muscles.  It is also very effective in reducing chronic muscular conditions that have developed over many years, where muscles have become shortened, creating poor posture as well as pain and restricted movement.

Cautionary Note: When selecting a therapist, be sure that they have the necessary qualifications and experience to perform deep tissue massage as it can injure both the client and the therapist if not performed appropriately.  Deep tissue massage is not recommended if you are suffering from an infectious disease, rash or open wounds, immediately after surgery, immediately after chemotherapy, individuals who are prone to blood clots, pregnant women.  Deep tissue massage should never be done directly over bruises, inflamed skin, unhealed lesions, tumors, abdominal hernias or areas of recent fractures.

It is also important to communicate with the massage therapist about pain; a deep tissue massage should never hurt, and if it is painful, it will be counterproductive.

Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage: may help you if you have chronic or acute pain caused by hypertonic muscles and connective tissue in areas such as your low back, shoulders, neck, or hips, as well as pain or injuries from sports and other activities.  Deep tissue massages can also reduce pain and release pressure on various nerves.  It is also known to improves circulation, which increases blood flow, bringing fresh oxygen to body tissues.

Deep tissue massage, along with Sports Massage, is my most commonly requested massage as it is very effective for reducing muscle tension and pain, along with easing many other related symptoms such as headaches, insomnia and stress.

People often notice improved range of motion immediately after a deep tissue massage.   About 90% of my clients ask for this massage.    The good news is that Deep Tissue massage really works and it usually works very fast.  Statistics have shown that Deep Tissue massage is more successful in easing symptoms of Fibromyalgia than any other available curative remedy.
